The United Arab Emirates (UAE), represented by its Gender Balance Council, has actively participated in the G20 Empowerment of Women Working Group's meetings since August. The UAE's involvement demonstrates its commitment to supporting global efforts to empower women and enhance their independence across various sectors.
The ministerial meeting of the ‘G20 Empowerment of Women Working Group (EWWG)’ held in Brasília, Brazil, focused on themes such as women’s equality, autonomy, combating misogyny and violence, and climate justice. The meeting brought together G20 nations and invited countries to share experiences and explore joint efforts to tackle gender inequality and strengthen women's empowerment.
Underscoring the UAE's commitment to empowering women, Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, highlighted the nation's progress in advancing women's economic empowerment through gender equality policies. The UAE delegation also participated in a side event, discussing the integration of gender perspectives into all G20 policies and initiatives.
In line with the UAE's commitment to global progress in gender equality, Her Excellency Mona Al Marri, Vice President of the UAE Gender Balance Council, emphasized collaboration with countries and institutions worldwide to drive meaningful advancements. Discussions also highlighted the importance of greater female representation in climate leadership and the need to address the gender-based division of labor and unpaid care work that hinders women's economic opportunities.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on enhancing women’s economic empowerment, combating discrimination and violence, and increasing women's participation in climate action initiatives. The discussions also recognized the pivotal role women play in the UAE's climate initiatives, championing environmental stewardship and promoting sustainability.
The UAE's engagement in the G20 meetings is part of its efforts to eliminate barriers to women's equality globally, including addressing climate change, violence, and discrimination. By fostering partnerships with stakeholders worldwide, the UAE aims to contribute to building a world where economic equality, autonomy, justice, and the absence of discrimination and violence are a reality for women everywhere.
